RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Thunderstorms brought high winds and hail to parts of North Carolina, leaving thousands without electric service.
The storms moved across the state late Tuesday and early Wednesday.
There were no immediate reports of injuries.
Duke Energy reported about 40,000 customers without service, most around Gastonia.
Progress Energy reported about 1,300 customers without service around Asheville.
Trees and power lines were reported across the western part of North Carolina, especially around Gastonia and Charlotte.
