ROWLAND, NC (AP) — Police in Robeson County say a high school activity bus was stolen and crashed before being set on fire.

The Fayetteville Observer reports that the bus was found Friday about three miles from South Robeson High School in Rowland.

Lt. Brian Duckworth of the sheriff’s office says the bus was stolen from the school parking lot and ran off the road into a ditch. Duckworth says the bus was hot-wired.

A fire was set in the in the front of the bus, but the flame-retardant material of the seats prevented it from spreading.

Duckworth says damage to the bus could cost up to $5,000.

No arrests have been made and police are offering a reward for information in the case.
