RALEIGH, NC (AP) — An air quality advisory is in effect for
northeastern North Carolina as smoke from a wildfire in Dare County
continues drifting northward.

Officials from the Division of Air Quality say residents from
Manteo to Elizabeth City and the northern Outer Banks could
experience unhealthy air quality. Sensitive groups of people such
as the elderly or those with respiratory ailments are advised to
reduce or avoid heavy or prolonged exertion outside.

Code Orange conditions are in effect for Camden, Chowan,
Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans and Tyrrell
counties.

The wildfire in the Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge in
Dare and Hyde counties has burned for almost two weeks.
