WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Veterans in our area will get a couple of chances next week to get help with their health care. The VA’s Rural Health Team is making two stops in our area to enroll veterans in the system, and provide health screenings and information.
The first stop is Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at VFW Post 2573 at 2722 Carolina Beach Road in Wilmington.
The team then stops at VFW Post 7288 at 900 Carter Drive in Calabash Thursday. That visit is also from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Rural Health Team consists of nurses who will be conducting health education, a nurse educator who can provide materials and discuss such issues as diabetes management and tips on controlling hypertension and cholesterol levels, and pharmacists who can answer pharmacy related questions and review medications with individuals. An eligibility and enrollment specialist will be on-hand to discuss VA health benefits and accept veterans’ enrollments on the spot.
Anybody who has served in the US military is invited to attend. Veterans are encouraged to bring a copy of their DD Form 214 (discharge paperwork) and last year’s financial information to expedite enrollment in the system. Also, you can bring a list of your medications if you’d like to speak with the pharmacists about them.
