RALEIGH, NC (AP) — One of the most closely watched measures of
North Carolina’s economic health is trending in the right
direction.

Everyone from policymakers to plumbers will be listening for
word from the state Employment Security Commission on Friday for
the direction the state’s unemployment rate took in April. The
national unemployment rate for April was 9 percent

North Carolina’s jobless rate dropped slightly in March, marking
the fifth straight month that the rate has remained below double
digits. March’s 9.7 jobless percent rate was down from 11.3 percent
in March of last year.
