The Wilmington Hammerheads notched their fourth straight win at Legion Stadium with a 3-0 victory against the Charleston Battery in front of a crowd of 4,732 on Saturday night in USL PRO action. The Hammerheads improved their record to 4-1, while the Battery dropped to 3-4.

The Hammerheads pressured Charleston early in the first half with three corner kicks and two shots on goal in the opening 15 minutes. In the 27th minute, midfielder Luke Mulholland fired one into the far corner of the net off a short pass from forward Andriy Budnyy to provide the Hammerheads a 1-0 lead.

The Battery made one last push in the 44th minute with a rocket shot from outside the 18-yard line by forward James Mack. The shot sailed just wide of the far post and Charleston remained behind, 1-0, at the half.

In the second half, the Battery found their form outshooting the Hammerheads, 3-1, in the opening twenty minutes. In the 71st minute, Charleston was denied a goal on an off sides call which would have tied the score 1-all. Minutes later, Battery defender and captain John Wilson received a straight red card leaving Charleston playing with 10 men.

In the 85th minute, Mulholland got the crowd on its feet again with another goal to extend the lead to 2-0. In the 90th minute, midfielder Hakop Aveysan fired a shot into the back of the net to provide the final margin 3-0 in the waning seconds of the game.

Next weekend the Hammerheads will travel for a double header against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and the Rochester Rhinos. The Battery will also play next Saturday to host the Harrisburg City Islanders for a 7:30 p.m. match.
