WINSTON-SALEM, NC (AP) — A Winston-Salem man has died after a shootout climaxed a nearly two-hour standoff with police.

Police Capt. Bill Cobb says 64-year-old Donald Ray Moore was found dead Wednesday afternoon when officers entered a home following the shooting.

An autopsy is planned to determine whether Moore shot himself or was killed by police.

Cobb says officers were called to the home by a family member who said Moore was behaving erratically. Officers were talking with Moore’s wife when he came out of the house with a gun.

He went back into the house and officers tried to talk him into surrendering.

Police say Moore then fired several shots and officers returned fire. Officers then went into the house and found Moore’s body.

No other injuries were reported.
