WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The US House of Representatives votes tonight on a bill to raise the nation’s debt ceiling by $2.4 trillion. It’s not expected to pass, because the measure contains no spending cuts.

Every Republican is poised to vote against it along with some Democrats, like Rep. Mike McIntyre.

During a visit to Wilmington today, McIntyre said the federal government needs to control spending just like the american people.

“I voted against it the last two times,” he said. “Plan to vote against it this time, because I think none of us are in a position extend the limit on our own credit cards, and we’ve got to bring government spending under control. I’ve long been a proponent of a budget balanced amendment to the Constitution, so that it’s not an option. You have to control the spending, and it’s time to start that effort right now.”

Tonight’s vote will come a couple of hours after the stock market closes for the day and a day before the President has invited all House Republicans to a meeting at the White House.

Is there no depth below which Mike McIntyre will stoop to pander to Republicans? He’ll even risk throwing America into a worse recession. I’ve voted for him since Charlie Rose retired. But never again…unless Republicans nominate Pantano again.

Yeah – what a great representative. Every time he comes to town, the first thing he does is make the rounds to every feel good organization out there, and give out huge checks of taxpayer money; and get his picture taken next to it, with his huge signature on that check, like it was actually his money – and not the taxpayers of this country. And then good ol Mike waxes moral superiority by voting against the debt ceiling raise, as if he had nothing to do with getting us in the fiscal mess we’re in, with all of his “philanthropy” with my money.

The reason you’re such a great representative Mike, is because the people here are so intellectually and emotionally shallow, that they actually give you credit as some kind of saint because you’re good at stealing money out of hard working people’s pockets, and giving it away to the organizations you think will win you the most votes. Works every time. Another election year, another round of good ol Mike with his bag of goodies; and of course, another election victory.

…is doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

You have tried for how long now (?) to paint McIntyre as a tax-n-spend liberal, yet FACTS prove your argument to be a pack of lies every single time. Does he occasionally cast a vote I disagree with? Of course! But the simple fact is that as long as he votes the way he does, your tired old ineffectual argument is going to fail.

Read below – he ticks off the Liberals because he votes so conservatively. That’s a GOOD thing, Einstein!

As far as I can see, Mike’s carrying out the very wishes of his constituency, what more can you possibly ask?!? I think as long as he has that (D) in front or behind his name, the people around here wouldn’t support him regardless of how true he has been to the promises he made when he ran. Mike, I thank you for that!

Sadly for many politics is all about sticking with your team, not deciding what’s right or wrong.

McIntyre votes with Republicans and some how that angers them??????

Actually that (D) has fared pretty well. Just put down the hyperbole and look at facts – how long has he been in office? McIntyre is the perfect politician for this area – a plastic suit with a plastered smile that hands out goodies like balloons at a carnival. And that’s what we like isn’t it? We’re too intellectually barren to actually expect or demand that government act within its Constitutional bounds, and stop redistributing the fruits of my labor; those fruits that Jefferson said should be free from government theft. But good ol Mac reigns king of that practice – and the mindless sheep dance to his beat; and then jump on the pseudo-conservative bandwagon, claiming that they are “blue dog” democrats, who really are conservative, who truly believe in limited government. Liars. Disingenuous charlatans.

I thought it was quite ironic how the Representative was talking about not raising the debt spending ceiling while he was at the opening of another new government building. It just seemed kindy of tacky.

Uh… no. This is the first time I have responded here to a McIntyre article. I am stating the obvious. You can’t parade around for years with huge cardboard checks payable with taxpayer money, for every single cause you think will buy you the most votes, sign your name proudly on the signature line, pose for photo ops, and then claim that you are some kind of conservative budget hawk in Washington, and take the high road like you had nothing to do with the mess we’re in. It is because of McIntyre and the thousands before him and right beside him, that we are in this predicament.

Even Pelosi and much of the staunch hard left voted against raising the debt ceiling – because it suddenly became unfashionable to do so in the 11th hour. For the last few weeks we have heard from the left that if we don’t raise the debt ceiling, we are feeding our future generations into the pit of hell; and then the template changed at the last minute. McIntyre did what he always does – put his finger in the wind (if it’s not too sore from signing all those checks) and get on the populist bandwagon. Believe me, if he was faced with being the only Democrat to vote against it, do you honestly think he would? Hell no.

You people support him because of your shallow love affair and cheap emotional response with regard to lip service and pretty faces. The same reason we have Bill Saffo as our mayor. You don’t care if you get screwed 9 ways to Sunday by these political hacks – as long as they smile real big, pose for the camera, and shake your hand as they lie their asses off to your face.

Our country would be economically and financially stable at this very moment if we had representatives who believed in Constitutional government; who never had taken exorbitant taxes from our pockets to begin with to pay for anything and everything under the sun. If we had never given away our money to subsidize the entire world’s lot in life; and if we never decided to use the power of government to artificially pick winners and losers in the free market. That’s the country I want back. The one where the road to prosperity is left unabated by an overreaching and arrogant, bloated government full of self-serving politicians like McIntyre who vote themselves the best out of the public treasury, and work overtime to secure that dolts like you will be the first in line to re-elect him with his cheap trinkets and handouts. Fools – all.

At least he didn’t vote against something and when it still passed took the credit like so many conservatives who had them photo ops with them big ol checks that they voted against. Whatever the reason he does it,HE does it.

2015 years 8 months ago

…when I receive a thousand word thesis back and it includes a few “dolts” and “fools.”

You might want to review the Constitution to see the basic reason why the House of Representatives was formed the way it was. We have four-hundred, thirty-five representatives all looking out for THEIR district.

If McIntyre doesn’t bring the money here for dredging, beach renourishment, etc., it will go to another district. Simple fact of life. If your plan is to have all Congressmen forget their home district and consider the welfare of the entire nation, all I can do is wish you good luck. It will be the first time that has happened since 1787.

In closing, rest assured that I vote for him because he’s a stauch supporter of the military and Second Amendment rights.

He’s EARNED my vote.

This vote was largely symbolic. Let’s see how Mike votes when it gets down to tough spending cuts. He is fence straddling again.

I don’t think there can be any doubt that you’re a great representative.
