New Hanover Commissioners vote against hospital's partnership with Charlotte system

READ MORE:

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- The management agreement between the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Carolinas Healthcare System was discussed among commissioners, community members, hospital representatives and employees at Monday night's New Hanover County Commission meeting.

While many were in favor of the agreement, others, including the majority of commissioners were opposed.

New Hanover County Commissioners made the final decision tonight and voted 4 to 1 against the agreement with Commissioner Jonathan Barfield casting the only vote for the contract.

"Clearly we are disappointed," said Jack Barto, the president and CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center. "But the bright spot of this whole process is we have the best hospital in North Carolina, and I’ve got a great management team, committed board, great medical staff. We'll go back to work tomorrow and we'll figure out other ways to get around this."

This was a very smart move.

This was a very smart move. I work at a local hospital that they manage & when they took over everything changed except the color of uniforms that we wear. NO CHANGE WAS FOR THE BETTER!!!!

Hurry Joe

Information and Supplies?!

"CEO of New Hanover Regional Medical Center Jack Barto said that the agreement with CHS would provide resources like supplies and information that are not currently available to the hospital. Now that the decision is final, Barto said the hospital will move forward alone." WECT.com

What information and what supplies do you need that you do not already have?

Too bad Jack

and gang, the commissioners (except Barfield) voted right on this one. It sounded like Jack and gang would be the only ones to profit from this. Maybe it's time to replace some of the good old boys at NHCRMC. I think they have reached their level of imcompetence. Time to move on.

Jack and Cronies of NHRMC

Jack and his puppet executive management cronies have only self-serving interests. They haven't expanded themselves in putting forth efforts to benefit our community. It's amazes me how many employees of NHRMC whisper their disenchantment with the current leadership. We would all benefit if they would move on.

NHRMC Leadership

While I agree that the Commissioners got it right on this. We are extremely fortunate to have an incredible team of admistrators at NHRMC. We are very fortunate to have a team of their caliber and competence and the resulting excellent care at our local hospital.

It is clear the gang of four

It is clear the gang of four did not care about the people of New Hanover County but were out for themselves. Thats why they wanted to work for Carolina Health. Can we fire these people?

Health Insurance

Healthcare is not subject to normal market forces! Anything that you have to buy at any random moment in order not to die is not something to which a rational supply/demand calculus can apply. Check out "Penny Health Insurance" articles on how to reduce the cost of insurance.
