LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Leland Police say crews have found the body of a swimmer who apparently drowned over the weekend.

Police say Saturday they received an emergency call to assist a swimmer who had jumped into the Sturgeon Creek near the Navassa Bridge off Navassa Road in Leland. The Leland Police Department, Leland Fire and Rescue, Wilmington Fire Department dive team, SABLE helicopter and the US Coast Guard responded and worked to find and rescue the swimmer.

Around 8:50 a.m. Sunday members of the Leland Fire and Rescue team found the body of Rolando Yanez Garcia, 27, near the Brunswick River bridge. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
