WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office has closed its investigation Commissioner Brian Berger’s claim that someone in county government may have broken the law by leaking information to the press.

In a statement, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said there was insufficient evidence to substantiate charges against anyone.

Berger claimed someone within county government illegally released private information in tipping off the StarNews that the county had received a letter regarding unemployment benefits Berger received from Washington, DC.

yeah, as I said when they decided to use man hours to investigate a paranoia claim that this was a a waste of taxpayers dollars but oh no, we listen the whims of a mentally ill man..I blame the sheriff department for investigating this nonsense even after the district ATTORNEY said there was no claim..

Well, no surprise here. Another waste of taxpayer money and Sheriff Department resources. The only people surprised are Brian Berger and Ben McCoy. Now the whining will start. The FIX is on. I can here it now.
