Robin Conroy was just an ordinary UNCW student, but all that changed her senior year when she got into boxing. From the time she started, it has been her dream to compete at the highest level.

The U.S. National Boxing Tournament in Colorado Springs will begin on Monday. This will be Robin’s second time boxing in the national tournament…

“You compete against all the best people in the country and the top four get a bid to the Olympic trials,” Conroy said.

The Olympic trials will be held in January.

“My weight class fortunately is one of the weight classes for 2012. They only picked three for the women due it being the first time, and right now I’m ranked in the top 20.”

“She’s much better conditioned than the average girl out there,” said her coach Andre Thompson. “Her chances this year are excellent. I love her chances. What does she do the best? She listens and she trains.”

Giving hits is an awesome feeling for a boxer, but you know you’re probably going to get hit as well. That’s something Robin doesn’t seem to mind. “If I get hit, I’ll be giving one right back. For me getting hit is actually an adrenaline rush.”
