Church van carrying children crashes, driver pronounced dead

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities say the driver of a
church van carrying 13 children was killed after the van ran off
the road and hit two utility poles Monday in Winston-Salem.

Investigators say 43-year-old Cedric Hooper was killed in the
wreck, while the children were treated at the scene and released to
their parents. They say the van hit one utility pole, then traveled
about 550 feet before hitting another pole.

Emmanuel Baptist Church owns the van.
