ERWIN, NC (AP) – Good Hope Hospital in Erwin has secured a
federal loan of more than $2 million to renovate and reopen as a
16-bed mental health unit.

The Fayetteville Observer reported that work to refurbish the
hospital is expected to begin by late summer and will take
approximately nine months to complete.

The hospital has been closed since 2006, when it failed to get
state permission to replace its aging facilities. The certificate
of need went to Harnett Health System instead.

Good Hope board member Pat Cameron says Harnett Health System
does not operate a mental health unit, which is a high-priority for
the county.

Harnett County officials have agreed to subsidize the Good Hope
center until it becomes self-supporting, which studies indicate
should be in about three years.
