BETHESDA, MD (GOLF.COM) — NBC Sports apologized for editing out the phrase “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance in its introduction to the broadcast of Round 4 of the U.S. Open on Sunday.

The omission caused an immediate outcry on Twitter, with at least one post suggesting that people boycott NBC advertisers over the video introduction, which cut between children reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and U.S. soldiers raising an American flag on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.

NBC Sports announcer Dan Hicks apologized for the omission later in the broadcast.

“Earlier we began our coverage of this final round just about three hours ago, and when we did it was our intent to begin the coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being held in our nation’s capital for the third time. Regrettably a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we’d like to apologize to those of you that were offended by it.”

The In God We Trust has already been taken off some of our money. Shame on them for failing to acknowledge our faith in what our forefathers thought was important enough to use on our currency.

Indifference like yours is the reason prayer was taken out of the schools in the first place. It started with the schools, then moved on to the Ten Commandments being taken out of courtrooms, and now it’s moving on to removing it from the Pledge of Allegiance. I hear there is also talk of removing “In God We Trust” from our currency.

One day, you won’t even remember that this country was founded on a belief in God by our forefathers. Nice going.

As a matter of fact he does have better things to do, we are talking about it as I type.

Sorry,Grand Ole Party! I had forgotten that God spoke only to Republicans! Hopefully He has better things to do than worrying about the Pledge of Allegiance, or even the vitriolic postings on this website.

“NBC said it was an error!” Do you believe everything you are told? With all the horrible things going on in this country and the world in general, it seems a bit over the top that you would take time to post on a subject such as this. Shouldn’t you be out saving the world from all these horrible things? Perhaps if God chose to speak to you directly he might say “Mary please mind your own buisness”.

NBC said it was an error! With all the horrible things going on in this country and the world in general, it seems a bit over the top to organize a boycott because of this! Perhaps if God chose to speak to some of you directly he might say “get a life”.

I was at church all day Sunday worshiping the lord, so I had not noticed what was or wasn’t on TV.

I don’t feel that this was just a “mistake” or that it should be dismissed by just an apology. An apology just gets someone off the easy way and then we are supposed to forget about the error. It is a big deal to omit the “under God” from the pledge. Don’t trample on my rights to have it in the pledge, just because a few jokers out there don’t want it in. I believe this country is supposed to be run on the majority opinion, not because “someone” at NBC made a decision. Not a great way to try to keep your standings high NBC.

Another example of left leaning Liberal views. The main reason I do not watch Brian Williams, or anything political on this network. They are a prime example of liberal views overwhelming any sense of just reporting the facts. They exclude what management hates, patriotism, God, and the American way. What a national disgrace this network has become. Avoid them, email their advertisers about their support of travacy in America!
