HICKORY, N.C. (AP) — Authorities in Caldwell County have
arrested the owner of a kennel and seized 276 dogs, some of them
suffering from serious infections and living in dirty cages stacked
atop one another.
Nearly a week after the dogs were seized, authorities arrested
53-year-old William Thomas Allen, who owns the kennel about 70
miles northwest of Charlotte. In addition to 104 counts of animal
cruelty, Allen faces two counts of failing to bury dead dogs.
Caldwell County Animal Control field supervisor Shannon Foster
said Allen was released from custody on a written promise to appear
in court because he’s cooperated with the investigation. His first
court appearance is scheduled for July 21.
A message left at Allen’s home seeking comment wasn’t
immediately returned Wednesday. It’s not known if Allen has an
