PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Juniper Road Fire in Holly Shelter is burning northeast toward Onslow County. The east flank of the fire continues to slowly burn eastward toward Highway 17 in the Sloop Point and Surf City area.

Because a small shift in wind direction could push the fire quickly toward homes along Highway 17, a voluntary evacuation has been issued for residents west of Highway 17 between the Onslow County line and Sloop Point Loop Road.

If you choose to evacuate, and do not have suitable arrangements, a shelter is available at Topsail Elementary School, located at 17385 Hwy 17 in Hampstead.
