NEW BERN, NC (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue plans to meet with
residents in four North Carolina military communities and then hold
a statewide summit on issues resulting from the 2005 base
realignment program.

The Sun Journal of New Bern reported Tuesday that Purdue will
meet with residents in Havelock on July 28, Fayetteville on Aug.
11, Jacksonville on Aug. 16 and Goldsboro on Sept. 14.

The statewide summit is scheduled for Fort Bragg on Sept. 29.

Purdue military affairs coordinator John Nicholson says the
governor wants to examine economic deficiencies, educational
concerns, work force issues and other challenges from the base
realignment and closure process that increased military growth in
several communities.
