WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The fireworks are set up for the Battleship Blast in Wilmington and ready to amaze tonight’s 4th of July crowd. More than 2,000 fireworks are set up across the river in Battleship Park.

The event, which brings tens of thousands of visitors to downtown Wilmington every Independence Day, is operated by Tennessee-based Pyro Shows.

These rockets are certainly not the average fireworks you can buy in stores.

“They’re a lot bigger,” pyrotechnician Alex Goins said. “We’ve got four-inch shells, five-inch shells, six-inch shells, eight-inch shells and ten-inch shells.”

The fireworks begin just after 9 p.m. The show will last about 20 minutes.

The street fair opens at 5 p.m.
