Cigarette blamed for fire that killed Wilmington man

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An elderly man is dead after an afternoon fire in Wilmington, and investigators say an improperly discarded cigarette was the cause. The fire started around 1:30 p.m. at 108 Charter Drive off Eastwood Road.

The Wilmington Fire Department said the victim was Danny Junior Miller. Firefighters say Miller's wife was across the street when the fire started.

A fire department spokesman says it took crews about 15 minutes to contain the fire after the got to the scene, but it was too late to save Miller.

kadner family

I just had the honor of riding on the 4th with Jimmy and other 911 heroes from Raleigh to Southport escorting the 911 National Flag. Our hearts go out to this family. He is truly an American Hero. This country owes him and others 911 heroes a lot. I know the citzens of Wilmington(my hometown) will do right by this man and his family. This man gives his free time to honor the memory of those lost in 911 so let's not let him down.

Sorry, but

I think you have this story mixed up with another one. This story is about the death of Danny Junior Miller, who died in a house fire from a lit cigarette. There is another story about Mr. Kadner around the same period of time, whose house burned down but he and his family survived.
