WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Strong storms that moved through the area earlier tonight caused Wilmington International Airport to use generator emergency power to power the runway lights, terminal, and security. Power went out earlier in the evening and was restored by 10:30 pm. Airport director John Rosborough says that no flights leaving or arriving into the airport have been affected.
Power outages have affected much of the viewing area. Progress energy is reporting about 3,000 outages total, and hopes to have all power restored by 2 am.
