CARY, NC (AP) — A federal official told leaders in Cary that
the recent search for a site for a new immigration office was badly
handled.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports that General Services
regional administrator Shyam Reddy apologized to the Cary Town
Council on Thursday for picking a site that was too close to homes
for a proposed U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

Reddy announced Tuesday the site at a former grocery store was
being taken off his list and a new search would be more sensitive
to neighborhood concerns and won’t be near schools or day care
centers.

The office will house immigration enforcement and investigation
agents.
