WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington is getting another movie theater. Carmike Cinemas announced today it will open a new, high-tech theater in Monkey Junction.

The 10-screen, 1,800 seat multiplex is scheduled to open next summer at The Villages of Myrtle Grove. That’s at Carolina Beach Road and Piner Road.

The theater will include 2D and 3D screens, including Carmike’s state-of-the-art “BIGD” auditorium.

I do hope that consideration has been made for the already horrific entrance and exit on Piner Road into the Villages of Myrtle Grove. When the road was adjusted to accommodate Home Depot, the merchants and customers and general traffic, including traffic for two schools, were sent on a Toad’s Wild Ride, endangering themselves and all others who to try and navigate the new route.

they’ll have the knuckleheads that designed the Carolina Beach Road Diet design the ingress/egress points…adding to an already “cluster” of a traffic pattern.

…the same brilliant group responsible for the existing u-turn fiasco implemented at Monkey Junction. Get ready for more of the same!
