WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Global Nuclear Fuel in Castle Hayne has halted its fuel making operation after a malfunction with its alarm horns during a test.

A spokesman says employees were evacuated from the manufacturing area and all production activities involving special nuclear material have been shut down.

The company says it identified the cause of the horns malfunction as a hardware failure with a circuit board. The company says safety and health was not affected during the malfunction.

No word yet on when production will continue.
