WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY)– Volunteers from the community hit Wrightsville Beach Saturday morning for the Barefoot Wine Beach Rescue Project.
This is the fifth year of the project and the fourth time the cleanup event has been held at Wrightsville Beach.
People involved picked up cigarette butts, plastics and other trash off the sand.
The project is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of both the ocean and beach.
“This is the heart and soul of what our community is about,” event organizer Sean Halum said. “People here realize the importance economically and socially of our natural resources and for them to come out and take care of it just makes you feel really great.”
Barefoot Wine partnered with the Surfrider Foundation to organize this year’s event.
