WISCONSIN (BLOOMBERG NEWS) — General Electric Co.’s health care unit, the world’s biggest maker of medical imaging machines, is moving the headquarters of its 115-year-old X-ray business to Beijing.

“A handful’’ of top managers will move to the Chinese capital and there won’t be any job cuts, said Anne LeGrand, general manager of X-ray for GE Healthcare. The headquarters will move from Wisconsin amid a broader plan to invest about $2 billion across China, including opening six “customer innovation’’ and development centers.

The division should have “double-digit’’ growth rates as the country converts from film and analog to digital X-ray technology, LeGrand said.

GE Healthcare, also the world’s biggest maker of magnetic resonance imaging and cardiac tomography scanners, got about $1.1 billion of its $16.9 billion in sales from China last year.

The X-ray business, whose financial results aren’t reported separately by GE, will hire 65 new engineers and support staff at a new Chengdu facility, the company said. GE has hired “a large number’’ of engineers who are in training, LeGrand said. GE, based in Fairfield, Conn., also has a global research center in Shanghai.

“Over the next five years, China will be GE Healthcare’s most important growth market,’’ said Rachel Duan, the China unit’s chief executive.

About 60,000 people work at GE Healthcare globally.

GE also makes aircraft engines and parts in Wilmington and is also a partner with Hitachi running a local uranium enrichment plant.

Way to go GE. If business is so good, why leave the US and go to China? I know why…cheap technology and cheap labor. Perhaps the federal government should begin to taxs these corporations that take thigns overseas at a rate of 1500 percent, then they might think twice about going over there.

No one will lose jobs? Yeah right, we’ll see in 6 months to a year how many of their medical care related jobs are still here in the US after this move is made….

Not to worry, there are plenty of jobs at WalMart, Lowes and Food Lion. The solution is easy, just get two 30 hour per week jobs to make ends meet and whatever you do, don’t think of burdening your fellow taxpayers by collecting unemployment, seeking Medicaid or applying for Food Stamps assistance.

Interesting that this “global company” moves its operation overseas yet pays no taxes here in the US and the CEO is a good buddy of Obama’s and is on one of his business advisory boards. So why should we buy GE?

I suppose GE is trying to get away from high wages, probably thanks to an outrageous union. I am sure the results will be cheaper production costs and probably higher quality products. High quality equipment at a cheaper price could bring down costs in the long run.

Yeah, Doesnt the president of GE ,Jeff Immelt work for the Obama administration on the board for creating jobs and keeping business in the US, Weird huh!!!

You can grouse about it all you want to, but the simple fact is that we are completely enmeshed in a global economy. In addition to simple business decisions there are several treaties that are as legally binding as the United States Constitution. (That’s the danger of ANY treaty.) Try imposing tariffs or Draconian tax rates for offshore manufacturing and you run headlong into these treaties.

There’s no going back. No one in their right mind is going to manufacture something here at home if they can get equal quality at a far lower production cost offshore.

We are also no longer the economic superpower that could once dictate how the world would be run.

You can make a TON of money by learning the new global economy and investing accordingly….or you can sit on your fanny and cry in your beer remembering the old days.

Your choice.

Where is WWAY’s resident corporate cheerleader? Is his post queued up waiting to be approved, or did I beat him to this story?

Okay, I’m sick and tired of these huge corporations turning their backs on U.S. workers after we made them who they are. I will never buy another GE product again. You are total turn-coats in my mind and don’t even care that you are giving our secrets away and also going up in competition against an American company in aviation with China – a Communist Country!! I say if you love them that much – move there – leave this country – all of you rotten greedy turn-coats – if you work for GE – get the hell out of America……I can’t be the only person that feels this way about all these corporations that are leaving us high and dry for cheaper wages with no benefits in foreign countries. We made them and this is how they reward us. Tax the hell out of them and make them move to the country they support.

The people who are running GE only care about one thing and that is profit, american workers meen nothing to these self centered greedy pigs, they have no respect for their fellow american workers, giving away american technology is ok with them as long as the people at the top and the GE investors make their money..
