WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A group of painters trying to make good use of the hours a business was closed wound up in the wrong place at the wrong time this morning.

Wilmington Police say the five people were painting Winner’s World bingo parlor at 4623 Market Street around 12:50 a.m. when they say two armed men came through an unlocked rear door.

The victims said the intruders wanted money from a safe, but they could not open it. The robbers ordered the victims to empty their pockets at gunpoint before leaving

According to police, both robbers were about six feet tall and slender. One was wearing a black ski mask, a black hooded windbreaker, dark-colored sweatpants and red, black and white Ken Griffey, Jr. shoes. The other was light-skinned with a short afro haircut, nothing covering his face, wearing a brown windbreaker and tan cargo pants.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the WPD front desk at (910) 343-3600, or TEXT-A-TIP to CRIMES (274637), beginning the text message with TIP708. TEXT-A-TIP is a totally anonymous program. Information also may be submitted anonymously online at www.tip708.

Seriously, if I’m in a group and we outnumber those threatening us, you can rest assured that if the robber(s) are still breathing when the police show up it will be quite unintentional.
