SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — A Shallotte Police officer has found himself on the wrong side of the law.

A SBI spokeswoman confirms that agents arrested Eric King yesterday for insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense. Agents also arrested King’s girlfriend Leah Cunningham on the same charges.

King and Cunningham were booked at the Brunswick County Jail and placed under $10,000 bond.

We tried to reach Shallotte Police Chief Rodney Gause for comment, but he was out of the meeting for the rest of the afternoon.

If Rodney Gause was in a meeting, then someone had better take a picture. The only time he’s ever “in a meeting” is when he’s trying to dodge someone. Otherwise, he likes to send other people to his meetings in his place.

    Now here is a surprise:

“We tried to reach Shallotte Police Chief Rodney Gause for comment, but he was out of the meeting for the rest of the afternoon.” Isn’t that the same thing that happened when an officer shot up Shallotte point? Gause has a habit of hiding when there is work to be done. Must be softball for the kids, golf or OH HECK DRINKING ON A FRIDAY NIGHT IN CALABASH.

Thanks for your comment and to let you know, I am doing very well. I could not see through his mess and all of his lies at the time, but he did me a favor by letting me go. I am sure if any of the DA’s in this case or any of the prosecutors were to want any other incriminating mess on him, I could probably be very insightful. But hey, I think he has done enough by himself. I, too, hope he rots but it won’t be in jail. He will get off with a slap on the wrist. Him and his homewrecking girlfriend. They are obviously made for each other. May they rot together:)

Thanks again for your comment. I want to apologize to you on his behalf for his stupidity or lack of concern for anyone else besides himself. As I said earlier, he did me a favor. Yes, at the time, he left me holding everything by myself. But it made me a better person and for that I am grateful. He, someday, will have to answer to someone much higher than myself or anyone else.

  • Amazed says:

We were just wondering what happened to you and hoping that your life got better when you got away from this piece of trash. He has been getting away with so much for so long and dragging good people into the dirt. Hope all is well with you and that you have found a good man who will appreciate you.

Eric, rot in hell (or jail) your finally going to get what you deserve and this time Gause cannot cover it up.

  • amazed says:

We knew that you could not see the real Eric, many could not. When he walked away and left you holding the bag, we were horrified. I hope you volunteer any information you have about him, otherwise you and I both know that Gause will cover it up and he will be back out on the streets. That woman got everything she deserved and hopefully more will come her way. We are happy to know that you survived it and got away. Many out here fear that he will only get a slap on the wrist because the DA will not have the guts to check out his history of poor behavior, supported by a LEO uniform. God bless and keep moving in the right direction.

Why don’t you sue that home wrecker for alienation of affection?

This man can be a super cop.

Just an FYI Tommy Cole has been out of jail! There are several other “dirty” cops that need to be in jail right along with him!

  • Bosco says:

This guy should have been gone a long time ago. He was a dirty cop. He was once a detective and was demoted. Now it’s come back to put a ANOTHER black eye on the Shallotte PD and Brunswick County. Eric, don’t worry bro, when ex-detective Tommy Cole gets out of jail for indecent liberties with a minor, you guys can sit next to each other at the bar and cry in your beer. Come on Eric, don’t have such a stiff upper lip. Look at the bright side, construction workers get paid more than cops.

Could we have a comment Karen?

  • the x says:

sure, my comment is short and sweet. He deserves what ever comes his way. I don’t wish bad on anyone, not even him. But when you think you are above the law for so long and think you are untouchable, well lets just say you get touched. Glad to see that other people are able to see through his crap.

  • resident says:

Have we not seen this man in the news on several occasions?

  • MaryRae says:

Shallotte PD on the wrong side of the law? gee that something new. The department is a joke.

  • oibling says:

Shallotte is much better off without Eric King. The guy is a genuine snake in the grass. Now if they could only lose Rodney Gause, they might actually have a competent, respectable police department on their hands. Coming from someone who has worked with both of these individuals, I can say with some certainty that the public should take a closer look at who they have policing their town.
