WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Parents and teachers in New Hanover County got some face time with the school superintendent this morning. Dr. Tim Markley and school board members invited parents to “Coffee Talk.”

It gave them an opportunity to discuss a range of issues from school bus stops to bullying. Dr. Markley answered questions on why students don’t get text books to take home and what he is doing to make sure that each student succeeds.

“I think what is accomplished was that, ‘I may not be able to answer your question, but I will direct you to someone who can,’ and I think it was a real good forum,” teacher Marilyn Lobough said. “It was a way of getting information out there, but also getting out there the idea that he cares, the senior staff cares, they do want kids to succeed.”

The district will hold these “Coffee Talk” sessions the next two Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. Next week it will be at the Ashley High School Cafeteria. The August 16 “Coffee Talk” is at the Holly Shelter Middle School Cafeteria in Castle Hayne.
