Brunswick & Pender both claim Dixie titles

WILMINGTON,NC (WWAY) -- The Brunswick County 14 year old Dixie Youth baseball team captured the 14 year old division at the Dixie Youth World Series on Wednesday night in Beaufort, South Carolina. In the finals Brunswick beat Louisiana 17-7. Chris Graham hit the cycle. Keyvon Perkins added a home run. Shelton Perkins was the winning pitcher. Brunswick went the entire week undefeated in the double elimination event.

The Brunswick 13 year old baseball team finished as the runner-up in the 13 year old division at the Dixie Youth World Series. Louisiana beat Brunswick 8-3 in the finals.

The Burgaw Ponytails softball team captured the Dixie Youth World Series softball title on Wednesday in Louisiana. Burgaw beat Florida 2-1 in the championship game. Mike Savage is the Ponytails head coach. WWAY featured this team two weeks ago when they captured the state title in Wilmington. AJ Johnson picked up the win on the mound for Burgaw in the title game.

The Burgaw Dixie Belles finished third out of eleven teams at their World Series in South Hill, Virginia. The Burgaw Belles received The Sportsmanship Trophy of the tournament.

Burgaw Dixie Belles

The Burgaw Dixie Belles finished 3rd out of 11 teams at their World Series in South Hill, Virginia. They were also voted to receive The Sportsmanship Trophy of the tournament. I think the Belles represted North Carolina very well and all of the parents and coaches could not be prouder of this group of young ladies. The team consists of: Anna Brodmerkel, Quasheda Brown, Alexis Coleman, Rebecca Cooper, Haylie Dockery, Kayla Dockery, Valarie Federonko, Amanda Ludlum, Kaela McCoy, Hayley Melik, Kelly Roughton, and Kassidy Tyer. The coaches are John Coleman, Jimmy Roughton, and John Pierce.
