CHARLOTTE, NC (AP) — Damage assessment teams are sizing up how
much damage the Charlotte area suffered from flash flooding as
officials look for state and federal financial help.

The assessors are visiting about 100 properties to put dollar
estimates on damage caused by Friday’s flooding. That information
will help determine which structures should be repaired or
condemned as unsafe.

Emergency management director Wayne Broome says the damage might
be heavy enough to meet criteria for Small Business Administration
help, which would allow flood victims to get low-interest loans to
help them recover.

The American Red Cross estimates about 100 Mecklenburg County
homes were damaged flooding from rainfall of nearly 7 inches in
some parts of the region. Two people died in the flooding.
