RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Four of the military personnel killed when a helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan had ties to North Carolina.

The Department of Defense on Thursday released a complete list of the 30 American service members who were killed along with eight Afghans on Saturday. Their Chinook helicopter was brought down by a rocket-propelled grenade fired by a Taliban insurgent.

Sgt. John Brown, Sgt. Andrew Harvell and Sgt. Daniel Zerbe were airmen assigned to Pope Field, a former Air Force base merged with Fort Bragg this year. The three were members of the 24th Special Tactics Squadron.

Brown was a native of Florida, Harvell grew up in California and Zerbe was from Pennsylvania.

Christopher Campbell, who was also killed in the crash, was a Navy SEAL and Jacksonville native.
