WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tourism spending has increased both in New Hanover county and statewide.
The “2010 Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties” study was prepared for the North Carolina Division of Tourism, Film and Sports Development by the U.S Travel Association. The study says that the economic impact of tourism in New Hanover county in 2010 is estimated at $400.88 million, a 6.9% increase from 2009. Travel and Tourism also generated $37.31 million in state and local tax receipts. The county ranks 9th in the state for economic impact by tourism.
The study also shows that tourism provided more than 5,000 jobs in New Hanover county.
