FIRST ON 3: Witnesses help tell tornado story through photos, video

READ MORE: FIRST ON 3: Witnesses help tell tornado story through photos, video

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- A lot of folks in Carolina Beach who witnessed the water spout either took pictures or shot video of it. In fact, their sharing the images they took helped us tell the story of what was going on as quickly as possible.

According to the National Weather Service, everyone should have been running inside to seek shelter, instead of standing outside to capture the waterspout, but a lot of folks didn't take that advice.

"We were coming over the bridge, and we saw a waterspout, so I ran in the house and grabbed my video camera," witness Troy Miller said.

He wasn't alone. Lots of people took pictures and video and shared them with WWAY.

"It was coming in a little bit. I guess we were a little stupid," witness Jeff Beck said. "We should've done our video taping from inside. We got to see one, it had to be a pretty big umbrella that we could see from here and it had to be at least 100 to 125 feet in the air so you could tell that it was pretty powerful."

"It was very funny to see all the umbrellas go up in the air," witness Josh Keiffer said.

Just a request

The photos that people submitted were resized to just a little bigger than the thumbnails. In the future, could you leave the photos their original size or at least keep them above 640x480 so you can actually see the photos?

Bigger size
