WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Hurricane Irene is still days away, but preparations have begun.
New Hanover County officials have been monitoring the hurricane, trying to get plans in place. It is still too early to tell who may have to be evacuated if anyone. Timing the arrival and studying the track will be key in the upcoming days.
“At this point with it being four days out, it is difficult to make firm decisions because of the uncertainty of the track,” New Hanover County Emergency Management Director Warren Lee said. “You know a jog to the left or right in the track makes a huge difference to us as far as wether we are on the right front quadrant or the left side of the storm”
The emergency management team will continue to meet to determine what steps may be necessary to protect residents.
