LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Much of Leland woke up in the dark Saturday, but the Gateway to Brunswick County suffered little major damage from Hurricane Irene.

The storm did knock down some trees, including at least a couple onto homes. We also saw two trees down along the side of US 17 near Goodwill and Harris Teeter.

For the most part, the impact of Irene was limited to some debris from trees limbs and wet roads.

Public Works and Progress Energy crews have been out for hours working on problems.
