WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The effects of Hurricane Irene can now be seen in downtown Wilmington as well as the beach towns. Winds have picked up and trees are falling down.

Police blocked off Market Street going toward downtown because of a tree down across the road. At approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday night the fire department arrived and cleared the road.

Other sections of downtown had flickering power outages as well as heavy rainfall.
