WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Search crews have found the body of a man who wound up in the Northeast Cape Fear River early Saturday during Hurricane Irene. The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says crews found the body of Melton Robinson, Jr., in the river just before 4 p.m. Sunday.

Robinson, 27, and two other men were at the NC Wildlife boat ramp near Castle Hayne just after midnight Saturday during the height of the storm. The two other men told investigators Robinson somehow wound up in the river. It’s not clear whether he fell or jumped. The Sheriff’s Office says the case is still under investigation.
