WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) -- In the wake of Irene, beaches in our area are showing signs of erosion. Residents in Wrightsville Beach however, say the storm this weekend caused no significant damage to the sand dunes.

Jamie Mayo, a property owner in the beach town, says the dunes actually look a little bit more built up after the storm. She says compared to past storms, the damage and erosion was very minimal.

“We got lucky,” said Mayo. “We faired really well. We didn't lose anything, no damage to the home. I think Wrightsville Beach as a whole got very lucky. North of us is not as good according to what family is telling us up north.”

Wrightsville Beach town officials say the Army Corps of Engineers is surveying damage to all of our area's beaches today and will know more tomorrow about how Irene affected them.
