Wilmington's Jay Ross is cut by Packers...doesn't get practice squad invitation, yet

GREEN BAY, WI (WWAY) -- New Hanover High School graduate Jay Ross is on the list of cuts today by the Green Bay Packers. All NFL teams have trim their rosters to 53 by 6pm Saturday. If Jay Ross clears waivers he'll be eligible to become a member of the Packers practice team. Ross is now eligible to sign with any NFL team. Essentially the NFL as of 6pm on Saturday has 800 new free agents.

On his official twitter page Jay Ross tweeted: "I will miss Green Bay and all these great fans. Hopefully I will be back soon."

UPDATE: As of 6pm on Sunday Jay Ross has not been claimed by any of the 32 NFL teams. He's on the way back to Wilmington. Ross hopes he'll be able to get picked up a team during the season. Keep in mind Green Bay didn't pick up Ross last year until midway through the 2010 NFL season.
