WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An early morning fire damaged two boats at a New Hanover County marina. It happened around 5 a.m. at Canaday’s Yacht Basin off Mason Landing Road.

The fire caused one boat to sink. The other was partially submerged. The fire also damaged a little more than ten feet of the dock.

Marina owner Robert Canaday got the phone call around 6 a.m. By the time he arrived, the fire was already out.

“I hate to see anybody’s boats get burned or anything, but yeah, I feel lucky that we didn’t lose the whole marina,” he said.

Both boats were pulled out of the water this morning. One boat was undergoing repairs before the fire, but no word whether that played a role.

Firefighters are still investigating.
