BELVILLE, NC (WWAY)-- Belville is a nice community in Brunswick County, known for well kept subdivisions, shopping centers and now politics.

The Belville Board of Commissioners called a special meeting tonight to censure the town's Mayor.

The town meeting started friendly enough with Mayor Jack Batson commenting on progress of recent storm clean up. but the main item was a censure of the mayor.

Belville Mayor Pro Tem Mike Allen tells us about the incident that prompted the town’s action.

“We received a complaint from an employee of the town and asked me if I would look into it the complaint, it was about a relationship or the mayor asking the individual to go out. So being an elected official I had an obligation to look into it and when I looked into it I saw substance there so I requested an investigation”.

Mayor Jack Batson tried to discuss the allegations against him but did not get much feed back, he was especially frustrated to get no response from the Town Attorney. Mayor Batson does not feel he was treated fairly in the proceeding.

Following a vote by all council members to censure the Mayor the board adjourned to a private session with Town Attorney Jim Eldridge and returned to end the meeting.

Mike Allen feels the matter is resolved, but Mayor Batson still feels he deserves answers to his questions.

A censure is simply an official expression of disapproval. It should be noted that at no time did either side allege any sexual relationship between Mayor Batson and the employee.

Why is it that just prior to

Why is it that just prior to each of the last three election cycles, something has been brought up to discredit Mr. Batson? Is this a miraculous co-incidence or the manipulative and malicious actions of a rival?

I noticed that Belville

I noticed that Belville spent $35,000 on this investigation. I also noticed that they spend $6,000 a month on rent in their offices in a tony part of town. Nothing Mayor Batson has done rises to the level of censure. The voters of Belville need to censure the board at the next election-- electing members not concerned with wasting money and hurting people to make themselves look good.

I wonder how Mr. Thurlow has

I wonder how Mr. Thurlow has played into all of this?
