FIRST ON 3: B.J. Wright has another brush with the law over the weekend

READ MORE: FIRST ON 3: B.J. Wright has another brush with the law over the weekend

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) -- A man with ties to former state Sen. R.C. Soles was part of a wild ride over the weekend. The driver now faces numerous charges after leading troopers on a chase.

Around 1 a.m. Highway Patrol was doing a license check off Highways 130 and 905. That's when troopers say Crystal Gail Lee slowed down and then took off.

Officers chased Lee and B.J. Wright, known for his multiple run-ins with former state Sen. R.C Soles.

After heading north on NC 130 Lee turned right on Pleasant Plains Church Road. Troopers were able to get her to stop soon after, but when they got out to approach the vehicle, they say Lee swerved toward an officer and took off again. The trooper was able to get out of the way.

According to Highway Patrol the chase continued on to Gores Trailer Road. A third trooper, Sgt. B.C. Harris, joined the pursuit.

After trying to block the fleeing car, highway patrol decided to sideswipe Lee after turning onto Antioch Church Road. Investigators say the car ran off the road and rolled over after hitting the ditch. The trooper who stopped the vehicle ended up in a ditch on the other side of the road. His vehicle went in frontwards then completely flipped and landed on all four tires.

Sgt. Harris suffered a concussion and some cuts and bruises. Highway Patrol says Lee and Wright had minor to no injuries.

Most residents in this quiet community south of Whiteville were unaware of the chase turned crash until several hours later.

"When we were coming to church, all I could see was marks," Johnny Hewett said.

Lee now faces several charges including DWI, reckless driving, assault on a officer, speeding to avoid arrest, driving without a license and two counts of damage to state property.

According to Highway Patrol Wright does not face any charges at this time.

Sgt. Harris, who was in that cruiser which flipped, was back on the job today but was not out on the road.

Bail Unsecured

Yeah and after the trooper was nearly killed, state property damaged, the Columbus County magistrates released Lee on an unsecured bond. This bail policy was on wway tv3 last night and it is crazy. Child molesters, rapists and all sorts of criminals are being released on to the streets by Judge Sasser and Judge Jolly. Something needs to be done and something is bad wrong when those that put their lives on the line are attacked and almost killed in the line of duty and Judge Sasser and Judge Jolly look the other way. Bad call and bad policy judges. Thumbs down to you.

Bail Unsecured

Lee was really released, is she out?

If I was Lee I would be ashamed.

I realize that mugshots are rarely flattering, but....

...why does Wright get stranger and stranger looking in every subsequent photo? What's with the spots and blotches all over his face in this latest shot?

It may be

Uncle RC has cut off funding and he can not afford blemish medication.

Here we go with another episode. what's the matter? Strickland's locked up so they gotta find someone else to take his place in this never-ending drama?

I hate to say this

but why is this even in the news?

Focus on Bank of America cutting 30,000 jobs in a soft jobs market.

Focus on the White House occupant coming to NC on Wedenesday to promote another doomed attempt to stimulate the e economy.

But why waste print or media time on this sordid person?

I guess, at least he was with a woman.

...and why

...and why did you waste your time on commenting on this pathetic article? After all, you didn't have to read it, did you?

Perhaps Guest Lee

to encourage the powers that be to focus on issues and news items which have a significant impact on our country and our local communities.

But then if they did that, those like you might have difficulty comprehending the topics being covered or their significance.

I'm a slow adult.

It's me

I have been GuestLee for almost a year now. For some unknown reason, this forum all of a sudden won't let me post as GuestLee. It now says, "The name you used belongs to a registered user."

I was this registered user for over a year. Now I see you using my name and responding for me in posts that you know aren't yours. I will begin using Guest Lee, with a space inbetween, to let others know it's really me...unless I can figure out how to reverse it. It does, however, amaze me that you would respond as me to a post you know you didn't write. That makes you untrustworthy and deceitful.

Don't be mad

I'm just slow.

I'm glad to see you're not letting your education get in the way of your ignorance.

The lost episode

Sounds like a lost episode of "The Dukes of Hazzard." Except this should would be called "The lifestyles of the stupid & incarcerated."

...Or the soap opera "As The Stomach Turns".

Its good to know that law

Its good to know that law enforcement is busy keeping our roads safe.

Or "touched by a senator"

You win

That is the best.
