DURHAM, NC (AP) — Gov. Beverly Perdue is taking aim at
childhood hunger in North Carolina by promoting a public-private
partnership geared toward increasing participation in meals

Perdue will join Share Our Strength founder Bill Shore in Durham
to announce the No Kid Hungry North Carolina program. The goal is
to increase participation in feeding programs by launching a pilot
effort in 27 schools.

Right now, less than half the 640,000 children who get a free or
reduced-price school lunch participate in the school breakfast

Greater participation in the federal school breakfast and summer
meals programs, for example, could not only feed more children but
could bring around $27 million in additional federal funds to the
