WASHINGTON, DC (WWAY) -– Rep. Mike McIntyre is standing up for the Surf City Post Office. Earlier this year the US Postal Service said the Surf City location is on a list of possible cuts to help the USPS as it faces mounting massive debt.
In a news release, McIntyre said he wrote a letter to the US Postmaster General advocating for the continued operations of the Surf City Post Office.
“We are putting a full court press on USPS to let them know of the importance of keeping the Surf City Post Office open,” Rep. McIntyre said in a statement. “Citizens and businesses in the community have been loud and clear that they need their post office, they depend on it, and it is a financially stable business. We are going to be with them every step of the way in doing all we can to keep it open!”
Contained in the information sent to USPS was a petition signed by more than 1,600 citizens in support of the post office, and three local municipality resolutions in support (Town of Surf City, Town of North Topsail Beach and the Pender County Commissioners) of the post office.
