WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police have arrested a man who is suspected of robbing the Kangaroo gas station on 17th street shortly after midnight on Friday.

54-year-old Leroy Thompson is charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and related offenses. Police cay that Thompson entered the store and put his hand in his shirt, as if he had a gun. He then reached over and grabbed the cash box out of the register. The suspect left the store and got into a car across the street.
When police were able to stop the car, the suspect drove off before an officer approached him.

Officers were able to locate the cash box after a citizen alerted them that they had seen a man run by some houses with a black box. A short time later, police located the suspect hiding in some bushes beside a residence on the 1200 block of South 7th Street.

Thompson is currently being held in the New Hanover county detention facility on a $50,000 secure bond.

His real name is Ronald Wilson and he just got out of prison late last month if not Ronald Wilson then this is his twin this time put him away for a long long long time

Actually, they are the same…Leroy is the name on his social security card. Ronald is actually an alias. When he was arrested in NC the first time, his id had on it Ronald Wilson, so to NC he is ronald wilson, but i think technically he is leroy…at least to his native NY

    no race card yet?

Hard to believe one of the Wilmington experts has not used the race card as a reason for his freedom.

Is it not time for a march on his behalf?

While he’s waiting trial, or waiting for someone to post his $50,000 bond, why not put him to work under gaurd around the jail or on the roadways picking up trash? Not just him, all of those being held in similiar circumstances.

…than having to pay the family of the dead thief when their family sues them for causing the death. In the bizarro world we are in, a thief’s family will sue the property owner for defending their possessions. That is some of the crap that needs to be banned from the courthouse and any lawyer that presents a case like that should be disbarred.

    …and killing these dirtbags?

But, he needed 3 squares and a cot.

Was probably tired of a lifetime of homeless shelters, drugs, street life.
It cold outside. Time to get arrested for non-violent crime.

I innocent. I didn’t do it. I know how to use the system that the law abiding citizens work hard for everyday. County jail treats me better than Good Shephard, Rescue mission, etc.

Good for you, average citizen, for reporting this man. You could have chosen not to get involved, and this thief would have gotten away. I wish we had more like you who choose to get involved!
