WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The downtown campus of Cape Fear Community College turned into an operating room today.

Students and faculty in the school’s surgical technology program provided information about their field while giving away free goodies and even letting the public practice their skills in operation.

Surgical technologists are allied health professionals, who are an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients.

“It’s a fantastic profession,” CFCC Surgical Technology Program Director Denise Gautsch said. “Cape Fear is an awesome institution, and our program here is a combination of excellent faculty and the foundation of Cape Fear Community College, and we are just excited to have the program and want everyone to come join us.”

According to the association of surgical technologists, surgical technology is one of the fastest growing professions in the country.
