WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Seven decades after entering World War II, the Battleship North Carolina has earned another honor. Last night the North Carolina Travel Industry Association honored the Battleship as its 2011 Attraction of the Year.

The purpose of the annual award is to recognize a North Carolina visitor attraction that exemplifies excellence, innovation and sets the standard for an exceptional visitor experience. Past recipients of NCTIA’s Attraction of the Year award are: Grandfather Mountain (2010), Chimney Rock Park (2009), Blue Ridge Parkway (2008), and the North Carolina Museum of Art (2007).

The Battleship, which serves as North Carolina’s World War II Memorial, celebrates its 50th anniversary in Wilmington October 2.

I don’t think I will ever understand some supposedly intelligent human beings thinking. That battleship was not contructed to hunt ducks. That machine was designed and meant to kill as many humans as efficiently as possible and we morons give it a place of adulation. Why not put a gallows or electric chair in the town square to be marveled at?? Sell that killing machine for scrap and give the money to disabled veterans.

without it, you’d either not exist or you’d be speaking a Japanese/German hybrid. People like you have always been on the wrong side of history.

  • You sir, should thank every WWII vet you meet and thank him or her for their service to our country. Otherwise, you could be speaking German or Japanese.

I would also honor that electric chair if they would put more of the murdering and sex offending scum in it.
