WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you have some dusty old monitors taking up space in your home, Your Computer Friends and PODS will take them off your hands for a small fee.

According to the EPA, e-waste represents two percent of waste in United States landfills, but equals 70 percent of overall toxic waste. Your Computer Friends, a computer repair business at 3816 Oleander Drive in Wilmington, is accepting electronics that should be recycled all this week until Friday at 6 p.m.

“With technology increasing as fast as it does, doubling every year, there’s a lot of equipment out there that just isn’t being recycled properly,” Your Computer Friends owner Susan Kadar said. “The estimate is only 25 percent of electronics are recycled correctly.”

There is a $10 fee for old CRT monitors and TVs because they contain toxic gases, but newer flat-screen or LCD monitors and other electronics are free of charge.
