Foosball championship draws players from all over to Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Competition was fierce at a local sports bar tonight. It was the kickoff of the 37th annual North Carolina state foosball championships at the break time billiards sports bar and grill in Wilmington. This is the nation's oldest and longest running state foosball event. The annual event doesn't just draw participants from North Carolina.

"We are extremely player friendly. We even have teams from Quebec, Canada coming down that should be here any minute, drove 22 hours to play. We have some gentlemen from Florida. They come from all over, seven to eight states and two countries,” Event host Alan Cribbs said.

A portion of the tournament proceeds go to support the brigade boys and girls club, which works with youth from disadvantaged homes. You can catch all the action through Sunday.
